Hasbro Contest Action Figure

Here is my final action figure project for this years internship contest with Hasbro. The figure was roughed out in casteline and then cast and finished in Hasbro's proprietary wax. It was a really fun project and I look forward to working more with wax in the future because of its ability to hold such incredible detail. I'm still waiting to hear back from Hasbro regarding the internship, so keeping my fingers crossed for the time being.

Here's the final photos of this piece reassembled after casting. He will be painted and get a few more things added such as the bandanna on the end of the stick, a cardboard sign around his neck, and a pigeon on his shell.

I finally finished molding and casting my hobo turtle character and am in the process of reassembling and painting him. I will have this kit available for purchase in the near future on my etsy shop once I get things set up through my new website that's still in progress. Although, if anybody wants one in the meantime let me know and I'll get back to you with the info and pricing.

Here's a shot of the final sculpt, minus the arms, which were cut off for molding purposes and a shot of the molds and the first casting. I'll have better photos to post up soon once I get him reassembled, primed and painted.

Tim Bowers is an awesome children's book illustrator from Columbus, OH who is also a CCAD alumni. In this year's 14th Annual Art of Illustration Show currently on display at Rivet Gallery through March 25th, Tim chose my piece "Lava Dragon" for a judge's award and was kind enough to give me one of his original illustrations as the prize. Well, it's been a while since I have posted on here, but I have an excuse, which is keeping busy in NYC while interning at Jim Henson's Creature shop. It has been a lot of fun so far and is a really great work environment. Although, I can't really show anything I've been working on at the shop because of NDA contracts, I can show a personal sculpt I've been working on in my free time. It's from a design I did for a story in the fall semester of illustrative drawing. I've been wanting to sculpt him since then and finally got around to it. I have been doing a lot of research on animatronics and stop motion lately and plan on making him into a posable foam latex stop motion puppet. I am also getting pumped for a Creature Design & Sculpture class I will be taking in August with Jordu Schell, who was the lead designer on Avatar and has worked on many other films like MIB, Planet of the Apes, Aliens, and Hellboy. http://www.schellstudio.com

Pirate Bear Finished

Here's some photos of my final pirate bear figure from this semester. He's about 7 ft tall with the base and was sculpted in oil clay, molded in ultracal and cast in latex and polyfoam. The fur was hand layed and punched and the weapons were molded in silicone, cast in resin and painted with acrylics. Costume was made by costume designer and CCAD graduate Marce Righthouse.

Yesterday I was lucky enough to receive a call from the Jim Henson Company in Hollywood, CA for an internship this summer. It would be a dream job for me to be able to work with them, I have looked up to Jim Henson since I was a kid back with the Muppets, and Dinosaurs, and later on with movies like the Labyrinth, the Dark Crystal, and most recently Where the Wild Things Are. I have an interview with them this Wednesday so I'm really excited to see what may happen in the near future.

Environment concept WIP. This is a concept of a swamp where an evil witch lives who created a race of mutated goblins. In order to pass on to the goblin village of Scum Bucktoo you must enter through one of their skull caves, which in this environment raises out of the depths of the murky swamp. Here's a couple of my many character roughs for an illustrative drawing project. I had some trouble with Frenchie's pose, but I think I have it down now, besides his right arm being a little wonky (needs to be foreshortened more). Josh Minto and I are collaborating on the back story of the pirate bears and their enemy goblin crew. I'll have some of the characters painted up by the end of the semester as well as some environments and other misc. designs. The semester is coming to a close way too fast and I still have a ton of work to do on this so I'll try to post some updates in the near future.

Today I got a phone call from Disney's Avalanche Software for a concept art internship this summer. Turns out I have an interview this Friday, and I'm super nervous/excited. Frenchie Head Sculpt

Here's the finished head sculpt for Frenchie and a couple other process pics. The sculpt was done in oil clay and molded in ultracal 30, then cast in latex and foam. I'm currently working on his body as he will stand about 7 ft tall when finished. The entire piece will be fabricated with hand layed and punched hair as well as a full costume and a resin sword cast from silicone. Check back for more updates in the near future. With only a little over a month left in the semester it will be pretty grueling.

Here's a couple character designs for a children's storybook concept project in styles & concepts. The story is about a young boy named Alvin and his imaginary friend Eli. Alvin and Eli are the very best of friends, spending everyday together from morning to night and taking incredible adventures and battling the evil monsters of the creeky closet. Sticking together no matter what and making the days worth living. Yet the time has come where Alvin is growing older and begins to make new friends at his school. It is no longer cool to have an imaginary friend and Eli is beginning to fade away.

Here's some of the characters that I'm designing for a board game called Cubicle Inc. Cubicle Inc. is a board game designed by a group of teammates and I in my Ad/Graph Team class. The story concept and characters were formulated by the brain of Dillion Sirimongkhon. We have to completely design and fabricate the a board game from scratch and be able to play it in the end. The Victim WIP

The Victim is about a man who has been sentenced to an insanasylum because of extra terrestrial information that he knows. He was abducted at the age of 18 and was missing for 2 years, when one morning he awoke in the middle of the ocean drifting on a small lifeboat. The government refuses to acknowledge his storty as truth to society, but in an effort to retrieve the information he holds the government performs a series of torture tactics to get him to talk, but so far they have no luck...

Here is a value study sketch of the illustration along with a color comp, the final will be 9"x 12" in transparant acrylics on watercolor paper.

My girlfriend's beloved dog Santino recently passed away after a long lived life. She had grown up with him since she was a little girl and it really hit her hard. So for Christmas I decided to do a painting in memory of him for her. It is 18x24 in oil. I was worried I wasn't going to be able to get it finished in time, but after spending only a week on it I was able to finish it off and frame it up the day before Christmas Eve. It was a hard painting to do because my reference wasn't very good so I had to make up a lot of the detail from memory. I really wanted to give it a personal feel like an old masters type portrait. I'm pretty satisfied with how it came out with the amount of time I had to spend on it. The final as well as a detail shot are at the top and the process shots are below. Enjoy......

Comtex Comission

This is a color comp sketch that I did for a Columbus business called Comtex. They are an industrial laundry company that washes hospital laundry from surrounding areas and are recently concentrating on recycling hospital equipment as well. They also have employees from over 20 different countries around the world. I was commissioned to do a painting for a new addition that they are unveiling this coming April. There were a total of 5 artists competing for the gig, and I ended up getting the job. The painting will be 5'x10' in oil and will be displayed in the reception area of the new addition.

These are some caricatures that I did over the summer for practice while working at Kaman's. Plan to possibly do some digital paints of the bottom inked ones if I have some free time. The top left is of my girlfriend Justine and I. The one next is my little brother as Master Chief. Lower left is my dad playing golf. And the other three in order are George Bush, Chris Farley, and Bill Murray.
